MIMOZA H

BIOGRAPHY

Based in Montreal and originally from Kosovo, Mimoza H is an independent, self-taught singer, songwriter, and producer known for her haunting voice and emotionally charged soundscapes. Her work has been described as “unique, intense, and mysterious,” blending the visceral with the ethereal through a fusion of organic instrumentation with subtle electronics, blurring the lines between alternative, avant-pop, and post-rock.

Her sound draws from a wide range of influences including Southern Albanian polyphony, Albanain rhapsody and cham songs (këngë çame), avant-pop, and experimental music, shaped by artists such as Dead Can Dance, Kate Bush, Björk, Róisín Murphy, Goldfrapp, Lhasa de Sela, Sade, Nick Cave, Chinawoman, and Lamb.

Mimoza’s relationship with music began early. As a child, she sang with the renowned choir Akordet e Kosovës, before immersing herself in alternative, soul, and blues-rock during her teenage years. With friends Blerta Zeqiri and Anila, she co-founded BAM—an all-female hip-hop group that, in 1995, earned 2nd place at a renowned Kosovo music festival, marking Mimoza’s first taste of recognition as a performing artist. She later became the lead vocalist for Armadillo Blues Band, performing across Kosovo for several years before relocating to the United States for studies and, eventually, to Montreal, where she has spent the last decade refining her distinctive voice and sound.

Mimoza’s debut EP Uproot (2016), self-produced and mixed with Mathias Schneeberger, garnered acclaim across Canada and Eastern Europe, earning her “Artist to Watch” recognition from CBC and praise for her melancholic vocals and cinematic arrangements. Since then, she has released several singles (Pretty Lies, Attisée, Cycles of Birth and Death, Well of Melodies, Winterlude) and performed at venues and festivals throughout Quebec and Europe, including the official opening of Manifesta 14 Biennial in Kosovo in 2022. Her music has received airplay on CBC, ICI Musique, Kosovo National Radio-Television, Top Channel Albania and various digital international radios.

As a lyricist and producer, Mimoza weaves memory, myth, and personal experience into sonically rich compositions that defy easy categorization—floating between art-pop, ambient and experimental worlds. She has collaborated with a range of boundary-pushing artists and producers including Motel Sazani, Millimetrik, Gima, and Por-nó. She is currently developing Voices Unbound: Breaking Boundaries, Weaving Stories, a full-length album rooted in Albanian musical heritage and produced with Jean Massicotte (Patrick Watson, Lhasa), alongside a cast of collaborators including Robbie Kuster, Vincent Legault, and Jonathan Cayer.

In parallel, she is finalizing Drift, an electronic EP written and produced by Mimoza herself, expanding her sonic world into darker, more experimental terrain.
